sweet and spicy cocktail nuts - FFwD



One of December's recipes for French Fridays with Dorie are sweet and spicy cocktail nuts.  I really shouldn't make spicy nuts.  It is so difficult for me to stay away from them.  How many could you eat? 


It is a simple recipe.  Mix up some sugar, salt, chili powder, cinnamon and cayenne.  Moisten some nuts with egg whites and then coat with the spice mixture.  Put them a cookie sheet, and bake until dry.



I like spicy nuts.  I have a recipe that I like a little more that uses fresh cracked pepper in place of the chili powder.  Maybe this Christmas I should try different spicy nut recipes and give them away as gifts.  And out of each recipe, I will only eat three.  Or not.

  2. I used 2 cups of mixed nuts for this recipe and I think it was quite equally shared between my husband and I!

  4. I am troubled by the same problems: I know that I will be making numerous trips to the kitchen to nibble on one or two, until they are gone. But I have to make them:)
    I see that you were one of the patient ones who separated the nuts. I do not know if I'll follow the advice:)

  6. Good luck with that three thing! Good for you having the patience to separate them. I made a double batch and it was too many nuts for me to separate without losing my sanity! But they turned out great anyway.

  8. I am getting in a nutty mood with all the wonderful nut posts this week. I'll be making these this week...but I'll need to make sure I have helpers to eat them or I might find myself eating them all...they look great.

  9. I'm tempted to join this cooking community but I promised not to buy another cookbook until next year.:)

    I can eat a cup of these nuts in one sitting; they look and sound delicious!

  10. Oh, you're good to eat only three. I had to hide mine till I have some company. Using pecans is a great idea - less fiddliness with the little nuts that were in my mix.
